Good morning. Weekend wake-up music is a new series that I am starting today. My absolute fave time to listen and discover music is about an hour after I wake up on the weekend, sipping coffee, and knowing that I don't have to get out of my p.j.s until I damn well feel like it. The tunes turn on, and a slow relaxed breakfast is made with my fiance and little pup wagging her tail in our tiny apartment kitchen. A mood lifting soundtrack in the background, and what more could any girl want eh?
Currently, I am OBSESSING over this band, Alabama Shakes. I mean, totally obsessing. Like my fiance might delete it from my itunes obsessing. I just can't get enough. Brittany Howard's bluesy, soulful scream is enough to make me look at her with huge 5 year old eyes, oggling the older and cooler girl in front of her.
This is a live video of SUCH a fantastic song, "I Found You", performed in studio at KEXP studios here in Seattle:
Oh man........ and this one........ "You Ain't Alone" is like Etta James and Janis Joplin had a beautiful lovechild. Take a listen:
I hope you enjoy Alabama Shakes as much as I do. Make a cup of coffee on your Sunday morning, check out their latest album, "Boys and Girls," and bust out your waffle maker!
